MY WINTERBIKE: SINGULAR PEREGRINE
finally some pictures of my new whip and the components I used. since winter came so early and with such impact, I'll postpone the "bling-bling" new bike post to spring next year, when the snow has melted and I can clean everything properly without severely freezing my hands. until then, I'll just keep riding it.
the SINGULAR PEREGRINE is a great frameset. it is not light but still agile, the geometry with it's flat angles and shorter top tube is more comfortable than a road bike and gives you good control, even in conditons that we are facing right now.
I'm using SCHWALBE RACING RALPH tyres which have very good grip in snow and mud. they are not very good on ice or re-frozen snow on the streets, I guess a studded tyre like the MARATHON WINTER
another great feature as a "can-do-it-all" bike is the dynohub powered lighting system from BUSCH & MUELLER. I use the 60 lux version of their IQ CYO series and it's really bright and focused.
as you can see in the pictures above, I switched from the NITTO MOUSTACHE handlebars to a road bar setup. I do like the special look of the moustache bars but was not really happy with hand positions and the overall width. if you are interested in those bars, I'm selling them for 40 euros. leave your e-mail adress in the comments and I'll get in touch with you.

here are some sneak preview pictures of my cross/ winter/ commuter bike.
the bike is still not 100% completed but at least it's ready to roll and I couldn't wait any longer to take it out for a ride. it's a blast to ride.

while I'm still waiting for the last shipment of parts for my winterbike project I build up my wheelset.
rims are mavic open pro, rear hub is magura 2000 (basically a dt swiss 240), front hub is a shimano dh-3D72. the front wheel was hard to true. I only have a cheap truing stand which starts to vibrate when you turn the hub slowly. the hub turns in steps, porbably due to the dyno funtionality?!
here are some pictures before and after.

WINTER IS COMING
winter is coming at us with big steps, the grocery stores have stocked up all the christmas sweets, we switched the clock back to winter time, the temperature dropped to one digit numbers...
this means we all have to prepare our bikes, add fenders, lights, bigger tyres...
after cycling through the winter for the last two years I decided to build up a dedicated bike for winter riding, with fenders, dyno hub, lights, cross-tyres
but I also want to use this bike for touring and a little offroad riding.
after searching the web for an appropriate and versatile web I finally came across this wonderful frameset from SINGULAR. it arrived yesterday an I can't wait to build it up.
check out the frameset below, I'll keep you posted on the next steps of the build.

KOELNER FAHRRADKURIERMESITERSCHAFT 2010
last weekend was the 2010 version of the cologne courier championships.
last year's winner Anja organised the race and it was so much fun! the race started at Bike Syndikat after a nice breakfast and the first beers and cidres. first checkpoint was Edu's Veloküche in Ehrenfeld, from there on racers hadt to go to 16 checkpoints throughout the city, you can find the route I took below.
congratulations to kai and düse who finished 1st and 2nd, I came in 3rd.
kai just returned from the CMWC in Guatemala. he cycled all the way from new york to guatemala with his bike with a double fixed flip flop hub. thats over 3000km! respect!

KÖLNER FAHRRAD STERNFAHRT 2010
the 3rd annual sternfahrt in Cologne will take place September 19th to support cyclist's rights and infrastructure.
you'll have 9 rutes to choose from. come out to Bickendorf (or Weiden, check this blog for updates) and ride with us into city centre.
last year we had a trailer with a sound system. (Gatmann, are you with us?)

FLYING WITH YOUR BIKE....
...is actually very easy!
we flew with germanwings into MARSEILLES and back to CGN out of BARCELONA, extra charge for the bike was 35,- one way.
I was scared my bike would get damaged, so I wrapped all the tubes in isolation foam from the homestore and put the bike into a cardbox from a local bike shop (thank you, radfieber!)
the bike arrived fine in MARSEILLES.
in BARCELONA we didn't have the time or chance to get any of the materials from the first flight, so we simply wrapped our bikes in bubble foil (thank you my beautiful parking!)
the bikes returned safely to CGN.

VELOPOLO COLOGNE

christophe started a great blog for all the polo players a few months back and it really helped bringing people together. check it out here.
there are two jour fixes a week, wednesday evening and sunday afternoon. just stop by if you want to try it, you just need your bike. mallets, goals and balls are there.
check them out on german tv.
this weekend there are the german-qualifiers for the bikepolo world championship in berlin this year and cologne is sending two teams, so if you are in ffm this weekend, support your local bikepolo team!
