on november 29th, there will be the german premiere of the fixed gear movie THE REVIVAL in cologne.
the film features some of the best trick riders in the USA, prolly, wonka, mosher, butcher, sam miller....
before the movie there will be a group ride to the cologne velodrome where everybody has the chance to get some laps on the wooden banks. there's a 7/10€ entrance fee if you want to ride, get all the details here.
before heading to the klub genau in ehrenfeld to see the movie, there's enough time to cruise around town and check out some trick/ freestyle locations.

there's a lot of stuff happening in cologne this month, there will be a whole day of fixed gear fun at the end of the month with a group ride, trick sessions at various spots and a premiere of THE REVIVAL, I will post something about this event soon.

winter is coming with giant steps, no chance to get some training miles after work so it's time to get back to the track.
here are some nice pictures from this summer and tonights training session at the Albert Richter Bahn in Cologne.

MUENSTER - RACE RECAP

two weeks ago I raced the muensterland giro, my first road race ever.
it was a very cold and windy day, fortunately the weather report was wrong, we got away dry. we started in the last flight of 1300 riders on the 110 km route . the good thing is that you keep overtaking people all the time. the downturn is, that you have to ride in the wind a lot, that costs a lot of energy, especially on such a windy day.
in the first 30 min we saw a bunch of crashed riders but when the peloton finally stretched, riding was pretty easy.
the route took us trough the east countryside of Muenster. the best thing was passing small villages with all residents on the street, cheering and scraming, marching bands playing...great fun. here is a pre-race picture.

TRAINING FOR MUENSTER

just came home from a beautiful training ride to prepare for the muensterland giro next saturday. 110km, flat and fast. it will be my first race, I'm really excited.
I'm wearing my new jersey from TWIN SIX, a cycling apparel from the US. it's hard to find some good and stylish cycling apparel out there, they are defintely one of them.
they have a german distribution, get them here.
I hope Nico will have these in stock soon, too cool.

Bei sogenannten Fixed-Gear-Bikes haben die Pedale keinen Leerlauf, sondern drehen mit - geübte Fahrer können dies zum Bremsen nutzen. Aber entspricht das auch den Verkehrsvorschriften? Ja, erklärte nun das Amtsgericht Bonn und gab damit einem Fixie-Fahrer recht.


Göttingen - Der Starrlauf genannte Antrieb von Fixie-Fahrrädern wurde jetzt vom Amtsgericht Bonn als Bremse anerkannt. Auf das Urteil weist der "Pressedienst-Fahrrad" in Göttingen hin. Fixies sind Fahrräder mit nur einem Gang, bei denen sich die Pedale ständig mitdrehen. Versierte Fahrer können die Fahrt verlangsamen, in dem sie gegen die Drehrichtung der Pedale wirken. Sie verzichten daher häufig auf klassische Hinterradbremse.

Ultraleichtes Fixed-Gear-Rad: Fixies sind Räder mit starrer Nabe und sind meist extrem spartanisch ausgestattet. Vor allem bei Fahrradkurieren sind die schlichten Modelle beliebt
In dem genannten Fall jedoch missfiel dies einem Polizisten, der den Radler stoppte und ein Bußgeld von 55 Euro verhängte. Das Fahren ohne eine zweite Bremse stelle eine erhebliche Beeinträchtigung der Verkehrssicherheit dar, so die Begründung des Ordnungshüters.

Der Radfahrer klagte gegen die Strafe. Seine Anwältin verwies auf die Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung (StVZO). Diese definiere eine Bremse als feste Einrichtung am Fahrzeug, die zur Verminderung der Geschwindigkeit diene. Demnach sei auch der Starrlauf des Fixies eine Bremse.

Das Gericht folgte dieser Argumentation - jedoch senkte es das Bußgeld lediglich auf 15 Euro: Der Fixie-Besitzer war schließlich auch ohne Klingel und seitliche Reflektoren unterwegs. Trotz dieses Urteils müssen sich Fixie-Fahrer ohne montierte Hinterrad-Bremse auch künftig auf Diskussionen mit der Polizei einstellen. Das Urteil des Amtsgerichts schaffe kein Präzedenzfall, so der "Pressedienst-Fahrrad". Und Fixie-Fahrer, die auch auf die Montage einer Vorderradbremse verzichten, verstoßen nach wie vor gegen die Regeln.

BACK FROM VACATION

sorry for not updating the last two weeks, I was on vacation in the alps.




because of my vacation couldn't attend the ride on the 26th july, but Edu from bike syndikat told me, they had a great 1,5 hour ride out of town.
I hope I can join the next ride again.
