THE LONGEST BEARD

nothing bike related, but very funny. and impressive.
this guy walked all the way across china!

THOUGHTS ON MY ROUTE

this are two versions of the route I chose to ride. taking the ferry from oostende to ramsgate would be a good short cut, but I heard they don't take bikes on the ferry ?!
maybe I can throw my bike into the back of a camper. otherwise I'll take the ferry from dunkerque or calais.
my first thougt was to ride across aachen, luettich, bruessel, but watching the luettich-bastogne-luettich race on tv made me change my mind. too many hills.

RESPECT

this guy rode 840 miles on his fixed gear from bristol to berlin. took him 8 days.

VELODROME IN COLOGNE

albert-richter-bahn
in cologne, just besides the football stadium. it's really fun to ride here, the tracks are really steep, up to 43°. always scary for the first few rounds, but you get used to it.
the pictures don't really show the steepness, but check the picture I found on milano fixed.

if you're from cologne and you are interested in track cycling, contact me or visit RC Adler, the cycling club I'm riding for.

THIRSTY IN NY

found this on prollys blog. picture shows the guys from SNAP Delivery! service in front of the affinity cycle shop in brooklyn. after a ride you can relax with a delicious gaffel koelsch.

RIDE TO THE DOM

this is one of the rare chances to take part in a social cycling event in cologne.
it's a rally from 8 different spots outside the city to the Koelner Dom, to demonstrate for carfree cities.
so, if you're from cologne and you are interested in participating, give me a shout or contact the guys at bike syndikat.
we will try to set up our own fixed gear ride to the Dom.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

found a link to this guy on the lfgss-forum. he has done a couple of really long tours on his fixed gear. see what he has to say about fixed gear touring after a couple of thousand miles.

"The fixed wheeler was a mistake this time. I was under-geared for a long time in the two flat countries and by the time the REAL mountains arrived I was exhausted. That's absolutely the last time I will ever tour on a fixed wheel. I've done 10,000 miles loaded fixed wheel touring since January 2005 and I can confirm what you've all been telling me. It's a real pain - in mountains, on rough tracks, on the very flat and when you are ill. Never again!!!!"

RIDING BACK INTO TOWN

coming back from a 85 km ride to bonn.

GOOD FRIDAY

did a little night ride because nearly all bars were closed due to good friday.
you can see the only "trick" I can do on my bike. not really impressive, huh?

Tomorrow I'm going to do another training ride to bonn. Should be a nice ride along the river rhine. stay tuned!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG

besides my everyday commute, I had my first longer training ride this weekend, rode ~75km around the open-cast coal mines and the powerplants in the west of cologne, took me 3,5 hours.
riding comfort was really good, but my new AME Tristar grips are not as soft as the ourys.

took a few pictures, hope you'll enjoy.

you can hear a sizzling noise standing besides those generators and cables at the powerplant, really weird!
