der schnee ist weg, der platz ist endlich wieder befahrbar. die feinen herren und damen von velopolo cologne rufen zur großen polo-jahres-eröffnungs-sause am sonntag, 09.01.2011 um 13:00.
last weekend was the 2010 version of the cologne courier championships. last year's winner Anja organised the race and it was so much fun! the race started at Bike Syndikat after a nice breakfast and the first beers and cidres. first checkpoint was Edu's Veloküche in Ehrenfeld, from there on racers hadt to go to 16 checkpoints throughout the city, you can find the route I took below. congratulations to kai and düse who finished 1st and 2nd, I came in 3rd. kai just returned from the CMWC in Guatemala. he cycled all the way from new york to guatemala with his bike with a double fixed flip flop hub. thats over 3000km! respect!
edu of bike syndikat fame opened up his own little shop/ workshop in ehrenfeld. here's a sneak peak of the storefront, as soon as the interior is finished I'll post some detailed shots here. meanwhile head over to his shop at grüner weg, ehrenfeld or veloküche's facebook page
the idea behind this backyard sale is, that everyone can bring stuff to sell as long as it is bike related. so bring your old parts, frames, clothes and whatever you have flying around. jan from bike syndikat will organise the event, their will be some beer tables to place your stuff. if you plan to come over and have a lot of stuff, please contact jan and register beforehand. thanks!
the 3rd annual sternfahrt in Cologne will take place September 19th to support cyclist's rights and infrastructure. you'll have 9 rutes to choose from. come out to Bickendorf (or Weiden, check this blog for updates) and ride with us into city centre. last year we had a trailer with a sound system. (Gatmann, are you with us?) head over to the official site for all details.
check out this video edit of this year's global gutz. till was superfast and made third place worldwide! congratulations. thanks gaku for this great video.
sorry for not updating this blog for a long time, I've been busy doing other stuff.
christophe started a great blog for all the polo players a few months back and it really helped bringing people together. check it out here. there are two jour fixes a week, wednesday evening and sunday afternoon. just stop by if you want to try it, you just need your bike. mallets, goals and balls are there.
this weekend there are the german-qualifiers for the bikepolo world championship in berlin this year and cologne is sending two teams, so if you are in ffm this weekend, support your local bikepolo team!
gaku just uploaded a nice edit of an alleycat in february. it was puetz's goddbye weekend, one of the founders and ceo's of bike syndikat moved to south france. good luck! the race was won by Eduard, Dennis took the second and Marcel the third place. enjoy!
the first edition of a new cycling exhibition will take place on the last weekend in march in the SPORT+OLYMPIAMUSEUM in Cologne. it's mainly aimed at recreational-, family- and touring-cyclist but you will also have the chance to see and try some fixed gear related stuff. bike syndikat will have a booth and will host the bike polo court on the roof of the museum. peoples store/ traffic production will display charge, se racing, leader bikes and the first appearance of the esb built by the man himself, Superted from london.
check out the website for all information you need. see you around
I didn't post much over the past two months due to lack of motivation. cycling was not fun during this winter with all that snow, ice, cold feet, cold hands... but I can feel the spring coming, I finished preparing my new roadbike and my new fixed whip is also nearly finished. I'll post some pictures of my bikes shortly, just like gaku did. (lovely bikes by the way!)
I heard rumors that there will be some bike polo action at the cycolonia exhibition end of march, I'll let you know about the details soon.
another interesting event this month is the stalen ros bicycle show in NEERKANT, NETHERLANDS. a show and marketplace(!) for pre 1980's roadbikes, check out the flyer:
